  2. Our Story

We don’t like talking about ourselves. We like talking about bees and nature and possibility and the work ahead to secure a better future. But we get it…if you’re going to back us and trust us you need to know us (a little bit at least)…

We’re a family of six, Mum, dad and four kids, ordinary as ordinary can be…special to one another, on a mission to save bees and thus save our ability to live on this planet into the future.
Creatives not ecologists.
Carers not careerists.
Parents not environmentalists.
A veterinary nurse/photographer and a musician/writer/corporate drop-out we bought a farm, and learning as we went, proceeded to naturally created a unique new way of caring for bees, nature and the planet. A place people want to be in.

A brief chronology of how we got here:
2012 – we bought a relatively small farm (55 acres = 31 football pitches) half a mile down a potholed overgrown lane in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains in Ireland.
2014 – Certified Organic
2016 – We became the only Certified Vegan Organic land in Ireland (Still are!)
2017 – Eureka moment! – turn the farm into the first and only true native wild bee sanctuary on the planet
2017 – We did just that launching The Bee Sanctuary of Ireland
2018 – Recognised as social entrepreneurs
2019 – We opened our gates to visitors
2020 – We closed our gates to Covid and opened up to digital advocacy
2021 – We launch our website.
2022-2024 – Turns out we’re very good at this digital advocacy thing reaching 30 million+ people across the globe
2025 – We’re going big for bees – WORLD BEE SANCTUARY!
We love the place we are lucky to have landed in.
The small piece of land we get to mind for future generations.
So…we are now reluctant activists.
We want a future worth living in.
We want to be able to look our kids in the eye and say we tried our best.
We fought the good fight. We didn’t give up.
Didn’t let mistruths, half truths and ignorance go unchallenged.
We want bees to be in this future.
No it’s more than want…. it’s need…we need bees to be in this future.
And all other insects and creatures too.
There is no future worth calling a future without them
